Shayna Kirby is a sculptor and installation artist based in Salem, Massachusetts. She earned her BFA in Sculpture from Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts, where she developed a deep interest in the relationship between gender, the body, and spiritual existence. As an active member of the Montserrat community, Kirby served as a woodshop monitor and a ceramics teaching assistant. She collaborated with a team of artists for the installation Ebbing Flow at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. Kirby was an intern at the Green Foundry in Eliot, Maine, where she gained hands-on experience in metal casting and fabrication. With a background in ceramics, metalwork, and mixed-media construction, she draws from her wide variety of skills to engage with material in unique, innovative ways. Through her practice, Kirby explores how objects embody sentimental value and how the act of making becomes a ritual, channeling memory, emotion, and spiritual energy through the limitations of material. She continues to live and work in Salem, where she is experimenting with jewelry-making and painting.
